Using these Math Journal Prompts on a daily basis is a great way to review and reinforce math skills. These prompts are easy and quick. The prompts are aligned to common core standards, but could easily be used in non-CCSS classrooms. The spiral review of skills will help strengthen your students confidence when solving math problems in no time!
These math journal prompts cover all areas of mathematics covered in the 2nd grade math standards. You will love using these prompts in your math journals and your students will grow in confidence as they complete them. These journal prompts can be used throughout the entire school year.
How I use these math journal task cards: There are many ways to use these cards. They come in smaller versions with 9 on a page or larger versions with 2 on a page. The ones with two per page have enough room for students to show their work on the paper.
Here are just a few of the ways I have used them in my room:
- You can use these daily as a review of all standards. I project them on my screen and have the kids answer 1-2 per day. I let two or three students go to the board and share their answers with the class.
- With the smaller cards I put them on a ring and add to it as we cover each standard. I leave them in a math center for students to answer.
- In my small math groups I will put the ones with 2 per page in a smart pal sleeve or page protector and have students answer with dry erase marker.
- I will also put one up on the projector if we have a few minutes between classes as a review of a previously taught skill.
Use these math journal prompts for:
- Morning Work
- Early Finisher Work
